I had made the second Chicago recruiting trip of the fall by myself. I came back from Notre Dame on September 3rd, and we drove out to Ft. Wayne.
We went to the zoo in the morning. The kids rode ponies and fed giraffes.
We spent hours at the zoo before we drove up to Detroit. We checked into our hotel and took naps.
Refreshed, we walked down to catch a Tigers game. The kids, augmented with cotton candy and sweets, did great. We stayed the whole nine innings and even caught the fireworks show at the end.
In the morning, we drove on to Grand Rapids to see the Gerald Ford Museum.
I learned he was an outstanding athlete. We sat in the president’s chair in the mock National Security Council room. The kids loved the aircraft carrier named after him.
Our Labor Day jaunt was coming to a close. We drove south to St. Joseph to spend Sunday at the beach. We all splashed in the water.
And then we drove home. We needed to celebrate Labor Day. We made salsa…
… and started a Christmas puzzle.
