64a. Montreal, QC to Lebanon, NH; September 24 – 25, 2016

Sep 24: Montreal to Woodstock, VT to Lebanon, NH

We left Montreal early in the morning so that we could get to Lowe’s in Burlington, VT in time for their 10 a.m. Build & Grow clinic of a fire boat.

{Quick aside:  the Lowe’s Build & Grow program was fantastic.  I’ve been taking Zach since he was 3 and we lived in Alaska.  When we lived in Indiana, I took Zach & Anna about once a month.  It gave us quality time together and the kids learned to follow directions and swing a hammer. During the first projects, I started all of the nails and let the kids take a few swings.  More recently, I just opened up the kits and watched the kids put them together. We’ve completed about 50 projects over the years. This was the last Build & Grow clinic that we attended. Lowe’s discontinued the program in early 2017.  Heartiest thanks to Lowe’s for keeping it going so long. I now buy old kits on eBay and do them with the kids.}

Zach & Anna built the boats while Kris nursed Ella in the van.

We had moved to Montreal about a month previous to this trip and were craving quality American food.  We went to IHOP for lunch.  The pancakes were delicious.

We drove to the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park for their fall festival. The kids got a junior ranger book and began to explore the park.  They saw the Rockefeller house and went up to the wood-working exhibit.  We watched a machine plane trees and decided to make our own walking sticks.

We walked down the hill to work on the junior ranger books and then took a horse-drawn carriage around the park.

The kids finished their books and went back to the Visitor Center to take the oath and get their badges.

Tired, we drove to Lebanon, NH to check into our hotel. We ate Mexican for dinner. And went to sleep.
